I am in the processes of applying to seven different law programs in Canada. Each application submission requires a personal statement that provides a glimpse of who I am as an Indigenous woman. Let me tell you, this is challenging! I have written five rough drafts so far; each provided content and ideas I felt were significant events in my life that would help the admissions committees understand that I will be an asset to their program. I felt on many occasions that what I was writing made absolutely NO SENSE. I handed the drafts to Auburn and it is incredible how someone you’ve never met before in person, can read your writing and just know what you are trying to say. Auburn reads each word and sentence with such depth and care, and provides feedback in such a way that you know she is really reading and intuitively understanding where your words are wanting to go. Also, I always let Auburn know that there is never a rush to return my essays, but she magically returns my them within days. I get excited to read her comments, suggestions and grammatical edits because I know she’s worked hard to help me capture that glimpse of who I am. Auburn is helping me to write incredible personal essays that I feel very confident to submit to any law school admissions committee in Canada.
